| We
research, create, and perform musical programs and re-enactments that bring
to life California's rich and diverse cultural heritage. We design teacher guides and student
workbooks that can be used in conjunction with our shows or as stand alone. We also do programs
in schools and workshops to train teachers. We were incorporated with our
501c3 nonprofit status in 1977. Our
projects include:
Tule
Reed boat building. A student project that incorporates Native American
cultural practices, history, and environmental issues. We displayed our boat at
the 2007 California State Fair, and participated in the
the Fall festival, 2007 of Miwok and Southern
Pomo Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria. Workbook
available now!
"Drake First
Encounter with Miwoks," a program that incorporates in-school workshops in authentic
music, local history, and native crafts, and culminates in the re-enactment
of the Golden Hind crew encounter with Miwok at Point Reyes National Seashore. Teacher guide and student workbooks are in production.
Gold
Rush. Curricular unit on the Gold Rush, with
special emphasis on its meanings for culture and every day life.
Workshops
on the crafts and culture of the local Miwok and Pomo peoples.
In-school
presentations of historical figures, with their accompanying music
and arts.
"Las
Posadas," a recreation of the early Spanish California holiday
celebration. This original show includes both youth and adult singers
and orchestra players, and is bilingual.

Our
programs are based on the most up-to-date research. We work with historians,
Native Americans, and other experts in creating our musicals, dramas, curricular units, student guides, and
workshops.
"Our students consider themselves authorities on Sir Francis Drake, thanks to Mother Lode Musical Theatre's marvelous presentation. It was bursting with facts, music, tales of adventure and great enthusiasm. We are hooked on Drake."
Barbara Gaffney, 4th Grade Teacher, Bacich School "Here
is an ensemble that has revealed...the cultural history of the American
West, offering a glimpse of tradition, charm, elegance, and a heritage
of which to be proud. But most important is the music and drama itself
the company has unearthed, a repertoire of great importance, some of it
serenely beautiful, some highly and powerfully dramatic, some witty and
much of immense charm." Bruce Merley, The Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco
