Our Gold Rush Teacher's Song Book offers nine authentic songs from Corinne Swall's private collection. If you choose to produce a play, these songs provide the underlying structure. In producing their musical show, students learn the basics of scripting a play, creating a character on stage, and performing before an audience.

Our methods are detailed to guide each step of the process. These include specific steps in learning a song, the elements of singer's diction, techniques for building a character, and approaches to writing the show.Student Workbook

Our full color California Gold Rush Student Workbook offers a lively account of the era through the use of first person accounts, maps, activities in and out of class, and song. Students gain an understanding of the manners, values and concerns of the times, the reasons the gold seekers braved the trip to California, the routes they used, the hardships they fared.

Activities include writing exercises to think both imaginatively within the context of the time. Another section explains the basics of reading music and learning a song. Mathematics is applied within the context of buying supplies at the mining camp and of running a boarding house. There are even instructions on tying knots and sewing/darning. A vocabulary list, bibliography, and suggested additional reading offer reference materials. Graphics authentic to the period reinforce a sense of the culture. This breadth of coverage moves an understanding of the Gold Rush from textbook facts to a sense of participating in the events.
